HOW IT WORKS

On Saturday, September 9, 2023, ten playwrights were given writing prompts and allotted two weeks to write a complete and wholly original short one-act play (approx. ten minutes). The plays are inspired by and include all writing prompts and are written specifically for this festival. Producers have divided the plays into two equivalent programs of five plays each. Joining the ten selected Bay Area playwrights are local theatrical directors and nearly a dozen Bay Area actors.

The resulting plays are wholly owned by the playwright, and the playwrights will retain all rights to future productions. The produced performances of the plays are considered workshop productions and do not represent a world premiere of the play.

WHO WE ARE

The Pear Playwrights’ Guild is a group of playwrights dedicated to supporting one another in the development of new work for the stage. The Guild provides a nurturing yet challenging environment where playwrights achieve their best possible work and fulfill their individual theatrical visions.
