“Nearly one out of every four Jews in the U.S. has been the subject of antisemitism over the past year, a number that advocates for the Jewish community say should trouble all Americans.
The data was published in a new report released Monday by the American Jewish Committee, which called for action to stop what the group characterized as a "severe problem" in the nation.”
Anti-Defamation League
ADL was born at a time when American Jews—both new immigrants and generations-long members of our society—were experiencing deep-seated bigotry. Culture turned a blind eye to what today would be called hate crimes. It was time to become proactive.
Reflecting a Jewish tradition and the ADL value of inclusion, we chose a mission of securing justice not only for Jews but for all people. It was time to stand up for every American living in jeopardy and fear. Courage nurtured the young organization. Resolve and challenges gave it strength and resiliency.
Times change, and new challenges arise, but the refrain of the haters and bigots is by now familiar to ADL. Its mission - to stop the defamation of the Jewish people, and to secure justice and fair treatment to all - remains relevant, even a century after ADL's founding.
Through a network of over two dozen professionally staffed regional offices, and a national headquarters staff consisting of experts in varied fields from research, law, education, and intergroup and interfaith understanding, ADL continues its second century with the knowledge and experience garnered over the decades.
International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people affected by humanitarian crises—including the climate crisis—to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. Founded at the call of Albert Einstein in 1933, the IRC is now at work in over 40 crisis-affected countries as well as communities throughout Europe and the Americas. We deliver lasting impact by providing health care, helping children learn, and empowering individuals and communities to become self-reliant, always seeking to address the inequalities facing women and girls.
In 2020, the IRC and our program partners provided:
31 million people with access to health services
410,000 children under 5 with nutrition treatment
2.6 million people with clean water
1.1 million people with cash relief
819,500 children with schooling and education opportunities
1.2 million people with gender-based violence awareness
13,413 small businesses with business development support
5,237 people become U.S. citizens
... among other assistance provided around the world last year.
